The world around us is constantly changing. How we interact with the world around us evolves over time. Technology has forever changed our world and will continue to do so. Technology is not going anywhere and should be incorporated in all aspects of our education. Haven and Keller show different aspects of the debate of academic writing in this new era of technology. Keller points out there are positive and negative affects of technology in academic writing. Haven and Keller both understand the data is up for debate and there is more research that needs to be done. Keller talks about not pushing aside the new writing that has been forged by technology. We as a culture must continually adapt our education to best prepare students for the real world and continually invest into our peoples education. We must intergrade the different aspects of our lives into our education. When it comes to writing we cannot separate online and academic writing just because of the little research that has been done on this topic. Keller said,” The idea... is to avoid creating a “fire wall” between in-class and out-of-class writing”(29). This means, we must continue to develop a new curriculum that encompasses both aspects of writing. Keller also said, “ the unstated assumption is that if you can write a good essay for your professor, you can write anything... that’s utter nonsense”(25). Our society cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that although some research has been done, more is needed and we as a society must keep an open mind on this topic.
