Creationists hold the belief that the Bible has complete authority, and that the Bible is entirely accurate (“Evolution”, 1999). Therefore, any information that is presented in the Bible must hold true, including historical information and the words of God. Also, the words of the Bible should be valued above all other words. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 proves that the Bible is without error. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (ESV). This verse pulled from the Bible delineates that the Bible itself can be used as a reference. Those who believe in God are not the only people who believe this verse holds true, but others do as well. Even atheist scientists believe that the Bible is a solid historical source in deciphering the origin of life. “While the Bible is not a textbook, I believe that when it addresses historical subjects, it is accurate…that would include historical science or the branches of science that deals with origins” (“Brief history”, 2009). This knowledge of historical background gained from the Bible helps to prove the age of the earth and how man came into existence. There are several instances where it is exactly written that God created man. Since the Bible is a historical source and is without error, these passages can be used to support creationism. For instance, in Genesis, the creation of man is explained with detail. Genesis 2:7 states, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (ESV). The Genesis account of the creation of man is what creationists use as the backbone of their argument. The entire book of Genesis deals with creation and the beginning of history. However, Genesis is not the only place in the Bible that provides evidence that man was created by a supernatural being. The New Testament, as well as the Old Testament, informs the reader about how man came to be. Colossians is another book of the Bible that contains solid proof for creationism. Different characters of the Bible reinforce the message that God created man. In Colossians 1:16, Paul recites in a letter to the church of Corinth, “For by him, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities⎯all things were created through him and for him” (ESV). Paul explains that God created all living things, including humans, for Him. Hebrews 11:3 is written, “By faith we understand that the universe was
