Creationism: A Comparative Analysis

Even though creationism is clearly supported, there are a lot of people in the scientific community and in society that are strongly opposed to the beliefs of creationists. Evolutionists have gained great support from the government over time and have convinced the courts that creationism shows favoritism towards a religion. Evolutionists argue that the Establishment Clause in the 1st amendment should prevent the government to show favor to any specific religion (“Creationism”, 2015). This is because many followers of evolution protest that creationism is merely a religion rather than a scientific explanation (Wiker, 2005). Evolutionists claim that their theory is entirely based on scientific fact so therefore; their position must be more …show more content…
Creationists hold the belief that the Bible has complete authority, and that the Bible is entirely accurate (“Evolution”, 1999). Therefore, any information that is presented in the Bible must hold true, including historical information and the words of God. Also, the words of the Bible should be valued above all other words. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 proves that the Bible is without error. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (ESV). This verse pulled from the Bible delineates that the Bible itself can be used as a reference. Those who believe in God are not the only people who believe this verse holds true, but others do as well. Even atheist scientists believe that the Bible is a solid historical source in deciphering the origin of life. “While the Bible is not a textbook, I believe that when it addresses historical subjects, it is accurate…that would include historical science or the branches of science that deals with origins” (“Brief history”, 2009). This knowledge of historical background gained from the Bible helps to prove the age of the earth and how man came into existence. Not only does the historical evidence presented in the Bible point to man being created by a supernatural being, but also the Bible directly states that God formed …show more content…
There are several instances where it is exactly written that God created man. Since the Bible is a historical source and is without error, these passages can be used to support creationism. For instance, in Genesis, the creation of man is explained with detail. Genesis 2:7 states, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (ESV). The Genesis account of the creation of man is what creationists use as the backbone of their argument. The entire book of Genesis deals with creation and the beginning of history. However, Genesis is not the only place in the Bible that provides evidence that man was created by a supernatural being. The New Testament, as well as the Old Testament, informs the reader about how man came to be. Colossians is another book of the Bible that contains solid proof for creationism. Different characters of the Bible reinforce the message that God created man. In Colossians 1:16, Paul recites in a letter to the church of Corinth, “For by him, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities⎯all things were created through him and for him” (ESV). Paul explains that God created all living things, including humans, for Him. Hebrews 11:3 is written, “By faith we understand that the universe was

Why in today's world is Creationism still a major point of debate? From a scientific standpoint, the theory of evolution has been proved time and time again, yet, the fight still rages on. In Katha Pollitt’s argumental piece titled “What’s the Matter with Creationism?” she attempts to explore this continual issue and how it is affecting Americans today in the classroom and later in adult life. On the whole I think I was most surprised with its existence at all – I’ve never actually met a creationist, and so it’s rather challenging to grasp their prevalence and what that means in the bigger picture –statistics will properly represent frustration! I would have been curious as to why creationists (in the public education setting) feel that religious teachings should be included in the curriculum at all, or at the very least why it should be included outside of literature and social sciences. I’m admittedly very uncomfortable with with the idea of there being an ultimate “right” or “wrong,” and it baffles me that anyone would be willing to champion their own beliefs in common ground, particularly when said beliefs have been gone through such... tremendous renovations, if you…

I asked Brian to show me a few examples he was referring to and he pointed out how in Genesis 1:24, the Bible states that animals were created before man was created, however, in Genesis 2:7 man was created before animals. He points to another example in Genesis 1:26 about how man and woman were created at the same time, while Genesis 2:7, 21-22 states that man was created first, and woman was created later. It’s minor inconsistencies such as these that made Brian question his faith. He stated, “if God is the only perfect thing that exists, then how could their be inconsistencies in His word since the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit.”…

This historical event demonstrates an extreme impact of the work. One reason might be, for years, scholars have argued about the significance of the Bible and God. Many individuals believe that since Adam and Eve were God’s only witnesses, how could someone else write that part of the Bilbe besides them?…

Despite the court ruling of Edwards, creationists have continued the fight to get creationism taught in schools, with limited success. Within the decade after the Edwards case, “despite the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987 in Edwards v. Aguillard ruled that ‘creation science’ is not science and cannot constitutionally be taught in science classrooms, Kansas voters battled over the inclusion of the ‘e-word’ in their state standards.” (Belin & Kisida, pg. 1054) At least still in public schools, creationists have continued to struggle for their viewpoints to be put in classrooms. However, creationists have landed a victory by exploiting a loophole in education law by presenting creationism as a valid, competing idea to evolution in private…
