Capital Punishment is where convicted offenders are sentenced to death for the most serious crimes. The offenses and crimes are suitable for the death penalty. These crimes are usually crimes such as murder. Statutes that the Congress prescribes along with any state legislature defines these death sentences. When it comes to Capital Punishment, I agree with having it. The family of the victims gets closure, criminals are shown more sympathy than victims without it, and it contributes to the overpopulation problem and the escapees and parole chance. Family can finally get closure in knowing the person(s) who killed their loved one will be punished for their crime in killing. Overcrowding in prisons is a big problem that the United States is facing. Overcrowding is at an all-time high and it is happening nationwide. According to Time Magazine, “Crowded prisons are more likely to have riots and inmate-on-inmate violence, including sexual assaults”. With overcrowding being a problem we should use the death penalty as a main solution for criminals who murder other people. The death penalty also solves the problem with parole and criminals who escape. When a criminal kills and is found guilty the death sentence should be given to them. When they are given the death penalty they will not have the chance for parole. These murderers will also be under maximum surveillance before their death and therefore they will not be able to escape. If we let murderers escape or get out of prison we give them the change to kill again. I am okay with having a murder on death row, but I am not okay with having a murderer walking. When it comes down to it the death penalty should be used more often to get justice for these victims and their families. Many people argue today that the death penalty has killed innocent people. That being true that will not happen today. With science being as advance as it is today innocent men and women will no longer be sent to death for a crime they did not commit. With that being said the real criminal can be brought to justice so the victim and the victim’s family can have it too. Many families of the victim argue against the death penalty because they do not agree with it. I believe however that they should face the death penalty, but that is not how things should work out. Just because one person wants it does not mean that it should happen. If the judge gives the criminal the death sentence the family of the victim should be able to decide whether they would like that or life imprisonment. The family and the victim deserves justice and it should he whatever can help these families to begin to

    The judicial system was buckling down on different drug offenses such as crack-cocaine, marijuana and opium. In 1985 marijuana was marked as the nation’s “number one problem” when it came to drug abuse. More people started using excessive amounts of marijuana since there was a decriminalization law. Eventually, it reached a high of sixty-four percent; programs and treatments were brought upon such as D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and G.R.E.A.T (Gang Resistance Education and Training). These programs were not just for adults, these were mainly targeted towards the youth so they will be pushed in the right direction. Teens are looked at as being rebellious and are more prone to using drugs than any other age group. Gangs are more known to use and distribute drugs and teens are the number one offenders when it comes to marijuana. The war on drugs was to reduce the amount of drugs being dispersed and used on the streets. Although, there are more people in jail for drug possession and usage than any other offense and those numbers have increased over the past few years with long-term sentencing. More people are serving a greater amount of time because of the truth and sentencing act. It was designed to have criminals serve majority of their sentence in jail then on the street. Before the act was passed offenders were serving a substantially less time in jail then what the courts ordered. Since offenders were being released so easily States shifted to determinate sentencing which required a mandatory minimum sentencing guideline in the 1980s. This transition kept offenders behind bars for more time and is one of the main causes of the overcrowding of prisons.
