I am here to talk to you about capital punishment and IT IS a matter of life or death. Not for me, not for you, not for anyone in this country but for people who live in countries such as China, Iran, Yemen, the USA , Jamaica and many more.
These are just a few of the 58 countries who still enforce the death penalty, who still deny citizens their basic human right to life.
I believe it is wrong to murder someone for a crime they committed no matter how heinous and everyone deserves the right to life; nobody should have the right to take that away. It does not make the families of the victim feel better, it doesn’t make the pain of the death go away. A 2011 study discovered that California alone has spent more than $4 billion on capital punishment since 1978 when it was reinstated; that money has been spent on trials and the execution of a human being when it could have better uses. Over a 9 year time period New York spent about $170 million and never executed anyone and so did New Jersey over 25 years but spent $253 million without a soul to be murdered! This money could be spent on crime prevention rather than Capital punishment and could assist the families through the grief and agony of losing a loved one. Let them learn from what they have done, let them learn the consequences of their actions and let them know what it is like to feel remorse instead of giving them the easy way out. Do not get me wrong, I know these people are evil and vile and unworthy of forgiveness but killing them makes us as bad as them and we know we are better, we do not tolerate murder, we do not tolerate rape but we also do not tolerate torture or revenge in this world we all live
