Right now the United States has five methods of execution, lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, and hanging. The one that is most used now in the 21st century is lethal injection. Which some see it as the more humane way of ending a human life, than other methods previously used. Yet is is proven to cause pain, “Autopsies have shown severe, foot long chemical burns to the skin and needles have been found in soft tissue” (Amnesty International USA). According to the Death Penalty Information Center website, all the death penalty methods cause pain like the electrocution, which is basically the electric chair, where they individual would have a jolts between 500-2000 volts for about 30 seconds. Or the gas chamber, which some states still use, where they release crystals of sodium cyanide, which the prisoners inhale and they die because they are deprived from oxygen. In the firing squad method the prisoner is sitting on a chair where he is then strapped, with his head covered. Then five shooters aim and shoot for the prisoners heart, 20 feet away. And finally hanging, which is still used in some states, where they hang the prisoner. All of these methods cause excruciating pain, harming the individuals. “While there are comparable numbers of black and white murder victims in the United States, 77% of the people executed since 1976 were convicted of killing white victims and only 13% were convicted of killing black victims” (National Coalition to Abolish The Death Penalty). Most of the people charged with the capital punishment are individuals whose victims were primarily white. It is not fair that because of ethnicity of the victims that the killer has killed would give them a higher chance of getting the death penalty. Everyone should be given a fair trial no matter the race or ethnicity in both parties. This causes harm in our society because it will then create stereotypes within our society. Which at the end divides our country, rather than uniting us. It makes it seem that the United States values the lives of white victims over those of color. With not using the capital punishment we would not have this results show up or the harm that it gives society, or their lives not mattering as those of white, the majority in the
