Should The United States Exterminate The Death Penalty?

“To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice.” The death penalty is an issue that is highly debated all across the United States. A state should not have the right no right to take the life of its own citizens. How can one be the judge if someone lives or dies? Some may say that the death penalty gives closure to the families of the victims, but often witnessing these executions causes additional regret and stress on these families. This capital punishment is much more negative than it is positive. Thirty-one of our 50 states use this murderous act as punishment. These states need to exterminate this hypocritical and irreversible operation. On top of all the horrid consequences, the death penalty is also very costly and is not worth our tax money. The death penalty is a form of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a severe crime, or otherwise known as a capital crime. It has been found that the death penalty can help both deter and prevent further crimes. Allowing the death penalty helps the state do their job by protecting the lives of the citizens that reside there. Since criminals escaping prison is very rare, sentencing them to life in prison could be just as effective. On top of that, a prisoner is more likely to attempt an escape from prison if they are sentenced to death rather than lifetime in jail. Others also fight that these executions reduce overcrowding prisons. Allowing the executions of these convicts will save some space but, these executions are so rare they have very little impact on the population of the prison. Instead of choosing execution to reduce the population of these prisons, one can can increase community service requirements, freeing up more space in our prison and helping our country at the same
