The death penalty should be used to help people to think twice before doing a crime. The death penalty is a punishment given to people who commit heinous crimes. From 1977 through May 2016, there have been over 1,436 executions, primarily by lethal injection. Most death penalty cases involve murders and other crimes such as treason, and espionage. It is an important tool for deterring crimes and preserving law and order. The death penalty ultimately costs less than life imprisonment. An argument can be made that justice or “an eye for an eye” honors the victim and helps console grieving families. For instance, African Americans make up just around thirteen percent of the US people; practically fifty percent of convicts on the passing line are African American. They are telling us that death penalty should not be used because it is a human that we are killing but what about the human(s) they killed. Would you like if a man or women murdered your son or daughter and then got twenty years in prison but you never get to see your son or daughter because they are six feet under? On top of that, once the murderer is out he can kill someone else’s son or daughter. Therefore, the death penalty is a good thing to have.
