To begin with, there are many reasons why people support the death penalty. First of all, people believe that if any person has the dignity to kill someone that they should be able to face the consequences that come along with it. For example in the Nikko Jenkins the article, “Judge rules Jenkins is 'not intellectually disabled ' in death penalty hearing” …show more content…
For example, in the podcast, “Supreme Court Reviews Racial Discrimination In Texas Death Penalty Case” http://www.npr.org/2016/10/05/496754926/supreme-court-reviews-racial-discrimination-in-texas-death-penalty-case provides information about Duane Buck who was convicted of murder in Texas. Buck shot and killed his ex girlfriend, killed the man he thought she was having an affair with, and shot his own step sister who survived. His step sister stated that she wanted him to be sentenced to life instead of the death penalty because he was under the influence of drugs. He was convicted after a psychologist testified against him saying that Duane Buck was more likely to commit future crimes because he was black. I think that no matter what the circumstances are, race should never be a reason to convict someone for anything, especially for murder or future crimes. In the website, “Death Penalty Information Center” http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/ states that, “Jurors in Washington state are three times more likely to recommend a death sentence for a black defendant than for a white defendant in a similar case.” It is devastating to know that cases like this do exist. This is another reason why I am against the death penalty because in many cases it turns out to be very unfair for minorities due to racial discrimination. Last but not least, sentencing someone for the death penalty is more expensive than sentencing someone to life in prison without parole. I don’t understand how many people would be okay with spending so much money on these criminals when they could just sentence them to life, in the end they are going to die anyway. This chart provides information on how much it costs to sentence someone to death penalty in
