The Death Penalty Should Be Abolalty

It is mid-summer, the sun is shining and the sound of ice cream trucks fill the air. You are not experiencing that though. You live in a state that allows the death penalty, and your life is about to be taken away from you. You are laying on a cold, metal table. Your family and the the family of the woman you have been accused of raping are both staring at you. Your breathing is heavy and you can feel your heart beating. In just a few minutes, the life you have known will vanish for something that you did not do. You have been falsely prosecuted, and you are going to die for someone else’s fault. Life in prison without the option for parole is much cheaper keeps violent offender off the streets. This also allows for the criminal to think about their actions. They may express remorse and can have changed hearts. There are no more options after being put to death. Counseling and mental health treatments may also be considered. It is better to help rehabilitate a criminal than to kill them. Complications can also happen with the death penalty. Especially with lethal injections. When someone is put to death by lethal injection, they are giving three shots. These shots have precise amounts of chemicals and must given in a certain order to avoid pain. Problems can arise which can make death painful and inhumane. There are no doctors present with lethal injections. The death penalty is inhumane and does not help to further rehabilitation. The death penalty should be abolished because it does not serve justice due to the extreme costs, suffrage of the victim’s family, failure of deterrence, and wrongful execution.
