Susannah Sheffer, a writer and project director for the Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization Murder’ Victims Families for Human Rights, interviews multiple families of victims whose demons had been sentenced to death. Although every case is different in its own right, the overall message remains the same. An eye for an eye is no longer an effective way to handle these cases because somewhere in this world is a family grieving over the death of their son or daughter by the hands of the death penalty. The sense of loss and regret of these families remains the same regardless of which side of the gavel you sit on. The interviews with the families all share the same opinion in opposition to the death penalty and make a claim to try and help these people rather than simply executing them. Every time we take a life in the name of justice we are embracing the same demons that possessed the convicted. This drastic action affects us from our minds to our souls. Demonstrating violence only causes more violence and society suffers as a whole. What kind of message is sent to society if we display that these criminals get to take the easy way out instead of rotting in a cell for the rest of their miserable lives. We must display that we are better then them by taking the more difficult instead of acting on our gut primal instinct. All life is
