Death Penalty Yes Or No

The death penalty is the punishment of execution, allowed through the court legally to murder an individual that was convicted of a capital crime. For those who support this way of dealing with individuals with argue and say it is right to wrong someone in that fashion; while others disagreeing and commenting that it is inhumane and doesn’t solve the core issue at hand. Dating back to the ancient laws of China, the death penalty has been in place as a punishment and throughout history people came up with newer and more eventful ways of executing individuals (Reggio). Currently in the United States, there are five practiced ways of execution; lethal injection, electrocution, the gas chamber, hanging, and firing squad. Since the government and states have no power of giving life, it shouldn’t practice its power of taking human life. This costs the taxpayers 90,000 more per year than a prisoner in a general population. While taking the taxpayers money this will effect spending money of other more important problems. For example, the money spent for trials reduces the resources available for crime prevention, mental health treatment, education and rehabilitation, and drug treatment programs (“Death…”). In Texas a single death penalty case costs the tax payers around $2.3 million. That is around three times the cost of imprisoning someone in the highest security level for 40 years ("Costs…”).
