This is changing people’s family and lives from a slip-up from the government. Quite frankly, human lives shouldn’t be taken for granted and end up as a “slip up.” Human lives are way more superior for this to keep happening. They practically can alter completely if someone lives or dies. There have been many instances where someone received the death penalty in a result of their low quality lawyer. For example, Lawyers have showed up late, been intoxicated, miss the trial, or even fall asleep. People from the Supreme Court have even spoken out and stated that people who aren’t well represented have much a more likelihood to get the Death Penalty. On top of that, it costs more for Capital Punishment then it does for life in prison. It is a long complex process that takes a very long time and a lot of money. This is to reduce the chance of an innocent man or women being convicted, but this doesn’t eliminate that possibility 100%. A numerous amount of people could question and say the opposite and think life in prison is cheaper, but if you add up all the trials going into it, the Death Penalty is far more expensive and more of a hassle. Sometimes there are cases where the Death Penalty could be up to 3 million more than a non death penalty case. The government should be spending that money on imprisoning people rather than throwing all their time and wealth into executing one person, with the risk of them being not guilty. Not to mention it slows down all the court systems going through all these long dreadful trials. It is wasting time for something that is probably never going to happen or end. (“In a Nutshell, Page 1). Lawyers have a much larger responsibility than they are set out to have and the government needs to recognize that and take better

The death penalty has no consistency, and it seems like a random pick of who get executed or not. In a country where we value equality and our rights, this system is not fair. Capital punishment is the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime. The death penalty is a complex issue, and can understandably be argued from both sides, those opposing the death penalty, and those who feel capital punishment should still be an option. Capital punishment should be abolished because, people are capable of change, the penalty puts innocent lives at risk, and we pay millions for each death penalty case. Firstly, people are capable of change; in other words, the guilty adept to rehabilitation.…

Capital punishment or the death penalty, has been used in the United States since the country’s founding in 1776. Back then, executions were performed publically throughout towns, and have been controversial from the beginning. I find the death penalty to be an extremely arbitrary and primitive act that should not be practiced anymore. We are at an advanced time in society and the U.S. is the only english speaking country to still practice this cruel and unusual act.…

Capital punishment has been used for many centuries to kill murderers or anyone who has committed a heinous crime. Although this may sound like a good thing, the trial errors are catastrophic. A judge and a jury are the ones to decide if a defendant gets the death penalty or a noncapital punishment. A defendant on trial for this certain punishment, does not get most of their rights of an American citizen. Congress should reconsider capital punishment as unconstitutional because of the amount of money used (1), the racial biases (2), the methods of death (3), and the people who are not being given the freedom of cruel and unusual punishment (4).…

The United States Supreme Court has established a long line of precedence in order to protect a person’s life and ensure the right decision is being made (Smart on Crime). Because of these precedents, every aspect of the case takes longer and is more costly. These delays and expansions are the major contributors to death penalty expenses, not the actual deed of killing a man or woman. More preparation time is needed for both sides to gather their evidence and to do research, there are more experts to hire, twice as many attorneys on each side (sometimes defense lawyers are paid for by the government), and a prolonged juror selection process (“Capital Punishment”). Each side must hire enough experts to balance the others, and the jurors must be thoroughly questioned about any potential biases (Costs of the Death Penalty).…

The death penalty is to some as a way to severely punish people who have done awful things, now to others it is a kind of cruel and unusual punishment, something that in this country should not happen according to the United States Constitution. In 1972, the U.S. Supreme Court stopped the states from carrying out the death penalty for being racially biased etc. Texas then resumed executions in 1982 and is one of thirty-two states that imposes capital punishment, being by far the most active in killing convicted criminals.…

Death row is not only morally wrong, but it is telling the murders, and other people up for death row, that killing someone for doing something wrong is right. Death row should be abolished, not only does it give inmates the impression that an eye for an eye is okay, but it puts innocence people lives at risk, it costs taxpayers millions of dollars, and it is a violation of the eight amendments. First of all, the death penalty puts innocent lives at risk. One hundred and thirty eight men and women have been acquitted from death row, and some of these individuals were days or even…

This sentence is commonly used toward people who have committed awfully high offenses such as murder, war crimes, and crimes against humanity and genocides. It dates back to the 1500's where this was seen as the just way of law that made criminals pay for their crimes in front of an entire community. Back then they used methods of hanging, stoning, and lashing these people, their main purpose being one, to maximize the general balance of pain and pleasure towards society. There are certain actions that we can take into our hands and those in which the law plays an important role.…

Data is unfortunately incomplete or difficult to comb through thoroughly to obtain an exact amount spent, but it appears that the expenses start to occur during the trial phase of capital litigation. Results for this are because of longer pre-trial periods, a longer and more intensive voir die process, longer trials, more time spent by attorneys preparing cases, more investigative and expert services, and an expensive penalty phase trial that does not occur at all in non-death penalty cases (Steiker and Steiker 405). Back in 2009 there were at least eleven state legislatures who considered bills to abolish the death penalty, all concerns were pointing at cost. Over time New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Illinois, and Connecticut have abolished the death penalty, and once again the high cost of maintaining a properly functioning death penalty system was the reason for the abolishment. National studies suggest that each additional capital trail causes an increase in county spending of more than two million dollar and theses costs are borne primarily by increasing taxes.…
