When I was 10 years old, one of my friends used to place ramps near the side of the road and use his bike to jump over moving vehicles. Although in retrospect, I realize it was an incredibly stupid pastime, it was entertaining for a group of 10-year-olds to watch. That entertainment literally came to a screeching halt one day when my friend did not fully clear a vehicle, fell to the roadway, and lacerated his head open. A crowd of people gathered and all I could see was the blood pouring from my friend 's head. I was terrified and ran back into my house, trying to forget this incident, which was hard to do since I could hear the ambulance approaching. I thought my friend was surely dead and that it would be a miracle if I ever saw him again.

I quickly found a mentor in one of my attending physicians and enjoyed working with him because he was the first doctor with whom I worked with, who seemed to genuinely enjoy his job. His breadth of knowledge and his enthusiasm inspired me, displaying to me that internal medicine required the integration of many other disciplines which fascinated me. This made it intellectually stimulating so that it never became stale. I enjoyed beginning a case with a blank slate, working up an initial assessment of the patient, and then deciding which specialists to consult. Being a primary health investigator is a rewarding challenge that I embrace, and I look forward to the opportunity to facilitate teamwork among my fellow physicians, nurses, physician assistants and associated medical …show more content…
I have built a broad base of medical knowledge which is reflected in my USMLE scores and have learned how to apply that knowledge in a clinical setting. Throughout my interaction with physicians, residents, and staff I believe my temperament is a good match for the field. I remain calm and focused under pressure while welcoming new challenges. My character is professional, my approach is systematic, and my personality is friendly and it would be my honor to display these qualities to you first
