Personal Narrative: The Death Of Harley

Improved Essays
Throughout my childhood years, I grew up with a golden retriever named Harley. He had thick fluffy fur, which blew along with the wind as he soared through the flowers in the long, grassy fields. He had huge brown marble eyes, which glistened while he glanced at you. His long bushy tail resembled that of a fox. His bright red tongue flapped around freely as he wobbled about his way. He was the sweetest dog one could have and was a very playful. Although his outgoing attitude resembled the attitudes of most golden retrievers, I began to observe something different about Harley. What made him so unique reflected how special he was to me. The most significant event of my life was the death of Harley because he helped me in establishing …show more content…
Many people don’t see the desires or the distinctive assets of their pets. This is because people get too busy and end up with no time to spare for their pets. Most pets yearn to be loved because it is apart of their nature. They deserve love and attention just as much as humans do. Harley was born with a desire to be loved. He was full of curiosity and was seeking attention. I had a desire to grow closer to him as well as to provide the love and support he needed. Harley stood apart from other golden retrievers because of his exclusive characteristics. Late at night, the stars are twinkling and the moon is right next to them shining brightly over the smooth river in our backyard. I can easily hear the loud, rapid chirps of the crickets right outside of the window. I lay on the couch comfortably curled up in the shape of a circle like position. My eyes, struggling to stay open, are rested on the screen of my 20-inch TV. Harley slowly comes creeping into the room only to find that my attention is elsewhere. He staggers up to me at a slow pace and places his nose under my hand. He then tries to pick my hand up with his wet nose in order to gather my attention. I quickly turn to him and utter: “Hey Harley!”, as I roughly pet him in excitement. This was how he got my attention. Harley was equipped with abilities in order to attain my

The girl is very bored after spending hours watching her mother shop for gifts and being told she couldn’t have this or that. As they are driving home, the little girl sees a sign with paw prints and an arrow and her eyes light up. Ok, so it’s not a candy store or an ice cream shop. But it’s the next best thing,…

When she found out she was shocked, “the reason it was deeded to the veterinary students was that the barn had bats and we were the only ones guaranteed to have a rabies vaccination” (Vogelsang 45). Near the end of the story when Jessica is explaining what happened to their deceased family dog, her young children misunderstand her message that their dog went to Heaven; her son said, “She’s going to Kevin” (Vogelsang 308). This simple statement brings light to the topic of their beloved pet’s passing. I sincerely recommend this memoir to everyone, especially animal lovers. Anyone who has ever had a pet will understand the wonderful messages in the story.…

Like all sidekicks. I’m just plain good company. I like attention, in fact I absolutely love to be petted, and even though I may not produce very loud purrs don’t think that I don’ appreciate you. I don’t really like when people pick me up and hold me, but if set down and put me on your lap and I move in every way direction so you can hit all my favorite spots. Though don’t get me wrong just like you, I also like my solitude where I can relax and take a nap or even just look out the window.…

During my excursion to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, I quickly realized many of the emotional connections that humans and their canine pets share. Prior to visiting with the dogs, I made my way around the cat shelter area. After observing the cats, it became evident that their many of their “cute” behaviors were aimed solely at attracting the attention of potential human companions. For instance, a white cat named Sirocco made a distinctive pawing motion whenever I passed her cage, as if she was beckoning me to come closer and visit with her. Yet, after she had garnered my awareness, the snow colored tabby simply retreated back onto to her cardboard bed to continue her restful afternoon.…
