On the 28th of June, 1914, the world-famous assassination took place in Sarajevo. The heir of the Austria-Hungary empire ------ Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a member of the Black Hand[ Black Hand: A secret military society in Serbia which mainly consisted of young Serbian men who is willing to die for his country.], which had given the A-H empire a good reason to declare war on Serbia. This had pulled out the complicated national relations within the European continent bonded by variety kinds of alliance treaties. Accompanying with more and more countries joining in the conflict, it had gradually led to one of the most destructive and violent wars in the human history. It is estimated that approximately 8 million people including civilians died during the war and the estimated material damage was between 3000 million to 5000 million euros. Under this circumstance, by the time when the war ended, the victors, in this case, the Triple Ententes, had to find someone to pay for the great loss, thus, the Treaty of Versailles was signed on the 28th of June, 1919, during the Paris Peace Conference.
