Before we can even talk about why there were charges against Celia and what were the circumstances; first, we need to talk about the events that led to the murdering of Robert Newsom. It all started in 1850, when Celia a name of a young slave girl who was bought a man named Robert Newsom who was from Missouri. He was an owner of a plantation in Callaway County and purchased Celia at the age of 14. We still clearly do not know about her life before she was bought by the Newsom family. Robert Newsom who was a recent widow raped Celia when he was taking her back to the farm. From then onward, Newsom visited Celia in a cabin which provided. For her and it was fairly close to the main household. Over the years, she had two children and one was a daughter of Robert Newsom. Sadly, he considered he considered them his property. In 1855, Celia began a relationship with George. She again became pregnant but was not sure who the father was. George told her that if she did not tell Newsom to leave her alone, he would have nothing to do with her. Even though she confronted Newsom about this dilemma, he would still go to the cabin. On June 23rd, Celia had a big stick in her hand and warned Newsom if he did not leave, she would hit him. In the end, Celia hit Newsom so hard that he ended dying.
