When I was a little girl and was growing up, I wanted to be so many things. I went from wanting to be a teacher, to a dentist and then to a Doctor. When I finally reached high school, I realized my ultimate goal was that I wanted to help people.
Signing up for my major in college, I wondered if I was making the right decision. Is being a nurse what I really wanted to do? I asked myself this so many times. After answering all my questions, I knew I was right. I love helping people. Not just a certain age or types of people, all of them! So I chose to become a nurse.

Technology, such as computers and monitors are used as daily equipment for nursing. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, 2014) Today’s nurses have to know how to use technology safely for their patients and for themselves. Nurses use computers to schedule staff, for timekeeping, to order medications or supplies, and for research and email. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, 2014) Computers have helped speed up time immensely. This was, everything is stored online. They don’t have to use pens and paper to write and print everything down and to keep documents.
Another form of technology that is used now days, is a monitor. A monitor shows a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen level, pulse and respiration. Required additional education could open up many doors in the medical field. 55% of the RN workforce held a baccalaureate or higher degree, which lead them into different nursing directions. (Rosseter, 2015) Different nursing jobs could include; Certified Dialysis Nurse (help patient’s whose kidneys don’t properly function), Certified Nurse Midwife (deliver babies), Nurse Anesthetist (works with surgeons and dentists for medication) and Nurse Practitoner (serve as a primary care giver). The change for nursing has been based off of the technology and patients problems. Cancer, drugs and alcohol have always been around, but in our world today they have been in so much more common for people’s illness’s and death.
In the five, ten or even 20 years, I hope my nursing career will have come true. I hope to graduate with a bachelor degree and come home to Lisbon, ND and work in the North Dakota Veterans Home. I already work there as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and have been there for about a year and a half. It is a wonderful facility with great pay and benefits as I work for the government.
