Til Death Do Us Part

Every night before I fall asleep I catch up on the news from my iphone. I start off with the happenings in the world and the national arena since it 's the most depressing followed by entertainment news because it 's just “head shaking-ly silly” and I wrap up with the happy optimistic articles on healthy living and your general “nurture yourself” stuff. I need to read it in this particular order to be able to cleanse my spirit of the tragedies I have a hard time comprehending such as the many couples who commit mind-boggling atrocities against one another and/or their children in the name of revenge.

The numerous plots to hire hit men to make sure their spouse have an unfortunate accident leaving the bereft spouse a large inheritance and no custody battle. The kills-for hire group tend to be caught before the job can be finished so there is an extensive trial that drags on for a decade or better with appeals and mistrials and pleads of insanity. Story after story of shootings, stabbings, disappearances, brutal beatings and claims hurled from both sides of abuse of all kinds. It 's like reading about the world 's most deadliest playground. Spats and skirmishes left unresolved until someone ends up dead. Hurt feelings that fester for so long they begin to erode an otherwise clear thinking adult.

Everything they worked for is gone. Their one love, their children, their family, their life mired in the muck of battle over property, money, and custody. It begins the creation of desperation that in turn snowballs into despair and then hopelessness where blame, revenge, retaliation and death become reasonable methods of making the pain stop. The mantra warps from,”For better for worse. In sickness and in health” to “If I 'm hurting then you 're going to hurt 100 times

Murders are seen on the news and television shows on a daily basis. People often hear of the brute and forceful methods killers use to harm their victims. The Devil in the White City, In Cold Blood, and Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone all divulge accounts of murders. These three books all use similar and some unique tactics for their books to be a success. As some murderers employ similar killing strategies, authors of murder novels employ similar devices of foreshadowing, pathos, and point of view, along with unique rhetoric and style, to cause readers to experience the loss while creating a bone-chilling effect when a character is murdered.…

Andre Dubus’s short story, “Killings”, examines the psychology effects of other people after a person has been killed. The story discusses the ramifications of the original murder, the subsequent actions of “justice,” and finally how the character go on with their lives. Dubus clearly examines how one family deals with the death of their youngest son. “Killings”, written in a very disconnected manner starts with no beginning details. Throughout the entire story Dubus never takes a side, never shows emotion or empathy towards anything.…

society in various contexts of violence, justice, and the law. In The Murder and The Vigilante, we are presented with how weak the individual’s standing against society is in the context of violence as in both stories, violence was treated casually to everyone except the protagonists; Mike the sole person attempting to prevent the lynching from a mob, to Jim forced to beat his wife despite how much he disliked the thought of it in the beginning. In Killings and we are shown the struggle of Matt, who is shown to go against the law as his son’s murderer, Richard, could walk around freely without bail, only due to his family’s connections and wealth. In Rose, our protagonist, Rose, kills her husband Jim, whom was the source of constant domestic violence and the person who attempted to harm her children. In both stories, these characters are dealt with injustice from society as Richard is essentially free only due to the corruption of the law, and Rose’s children are taken away despite how much she cares for them.…

Life is simply perspective. Some say that you have your whole life to do something, while others will argue that life is short and you should enjoy it to the full extent of it’s worth. You can look at something as exquisite, or atrocious. It doesn’t change what it is, but it changes your reaction to it. No matter how sure you are about the morality, someone else could view it differently.…

2014 and 2015 were my fleeting lifespan's worst years. No major, life-or-death events happened. I just have felt so very alone even amongst friends and family. Talking to people about what I feel just makes me feel selfish, knowing how others are suffering more so.…

“There are two things in life you can be sure of...death and taxes.” While both are realities we may try to avoid, many people never give much thought to the details, both financially and socially, of what happens when we die. Death is and will always be the last thing that I would talk about. When the topic of death tries to surface, I always change the subject and start a new conversation. Talking about death is very depressing and I am actually getting anxiety typing this…

Live for Now not Forever It is absolutely imaginable that I, being born in the 90s, would have a greater life expectancy at birth than grandmother had in the 20s or my mother had 50s. What is not so simply grasped is the change in expected life span within one individual’s life. According to Nation Master, the life expectancy in 1997 for a Maltese-American female was about 80 years old. When I used the calculator on the “Living to 100” website, using my current age, my expected life span was determined to be 90 years.…
