September 11, 2001. Most people remember this as being the most tragic day in U.S. history. Thousands of lives were lost during the attacks that day. More importantly, it symbolizes that we as a nation will not be broken or torn apart by hate. In the aftermath of it all, we rose out of the ashes and began to rebuild ourselves to be better and stronger than ever.
If you do not already know what happened on this day, here is an overview: On September 11, 2001, two planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York. Both of the buildings went up in flames and eventually crashed to the ground. Another plane went down into the Pentagram, destroying the west part of it and leaving a gaping hole. To start, a series of wars began to conjure up that are still ongoing to this very day. Immigration and deportation have been problems simply out of fear. Many citizens stereotype that all people who are from the Middle East are terrorists. As a solution, those immigrants are deported and the ones that do manage to get in the states are treated as a threat. Airport security also tightened after the attacks occurred. Instead of going through smoothly and fast, the process of getting on a plane is more difficult because of stricter security methods to make sure everyone is safe. Lastly, surveillance started to become more prominent to monitor what goes on in our nation’s networks. This is effective to see who could start another war or attack on us so that in the future we can be better prepared to defend our country.
At the end of the day, 9/11 changed our lives for better or worse. It taught us that even though we might be broken and lives might be lost, our foundation will not break. We might be shaken, but in the end we will always be victorious and proud. Our core might have been broken, but our spirit was not. We rose from the flames and fixed what was lost in this adversity on the day the Earth stood
