"December 7, 1941, a day that will live in infamy." Those words, uttered by President Franklin D. Roosevelt after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, changed the course of American history. It all started on the morning of December 7, 1941, when the empire of Japan finally decided to bomb the U.S. For the past six to seven years, U.S. President Roosevelt had tried everything he could to anger the Japanese so they could go to war. Roosevelt wanted to go war with Japan to show how more powerful the U.S. was, however, he didn’t realize that it would start World War II. remember December 7, as a “The Day of Infamy” that would cause the U.S. a hurt in pride and would be an embarrassment. The U.S. government decided to give all the men who fought 16 different medals of honor (Hasday 102, 111). After the bombing, President Roosevelt stated that all Japanese families will be put in camps because they would a security risk. In the end, over 100,000 Japanese families would be relocated to ten different camps over the U.S. deserts. Meanwhile this was happening, Roosevelt gave a speech to congress declaring war with Japan. In the after mass, the U.S. had came to realization that Japan could had done more damage then they decided it in the end. However, the people found out that Waikiki’s drinking water had been poisoned when Japan was still over fighting them. Then on August 6th and 9th, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on Japan to give the message it was war time. Those two bombs alone killed over 200,000 Japanese people, which would be the start of World War II.
