Decent Essays
September 1, 2017, “I got busted”. On that day in September a lot changed for me things I could not fathom happening did. Through using perseverance, passion, and hard work I learned that changing things about yourself could be some of the most difficult challenges you will ever face. On the warm September night with the blue and red lights flashing I knew I got busted. On September 1, I was charged with a small amount of drugs (I’m not going to go into details about the case). Getting the handcuffs tightened around my wrist was the moment of change that allowed for a new beginning. For instance, every morning when I woke up to my alarm screaming at me, I told myself, “today is a new beginning make something of it.” As you can see, the want and drive to change took passion telling myself I need to change was not easy it was an exercise that took a lot of mental and physical stress. Finally, hard work is the trait I covet the most in my life it is what makes the difference between those who just make movements each day and those who work every second of each day for success. To illustrate, hard work is the trait of those who have made something with their life; for example Chris Kyle, Marcus Luttrell, and Jimmy Settle, the names of just a few people who I admire. Hard work is the beading sweat running down your face when you think you cannot manage one more rep or another stroke of the pencil. Therefore, hard work is the trait I strain to my success. Hard work is what I strive for each and every day I wake up. In conclusion, perseverance, passion, and hard work helped me change to who I am

Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers illuminated countless aspects of society and “success” that are rarely addressed. Practice and hard work are often forgotten once the goal or feet has been achieved. Reading through this list the first time, there were 5 quotes with which I could relate; all of these quotes referred to strong work ethic and the advantages toward one’s future that follow. For this reason, I had to go through them again and really think about which one would be most applicable to me as I look for success in my own life: “Hard work is a prison sentence only if it does not have meaning. Once it does, it becomes the kind of thing that makes you grab your wife around the waist and dance a jig.”…
