Narrative Essay: The Day Before A Ride Along

Improved Essays
The day before the ride along. October 21st 2016, I was excited for more than one reason. Not only was I going to be participating in a ride along with a station in a city I’d be potentially working for in the coming years. I was also getting to see my family for the first time in 3 months. Having left my car at home for my father to use, I had no means of getting back and forth between my home. Needless to say it was nice to see them all again, but I had to focus on the upcoming ride along. So upon arriving home I began packing and ironing my shirts and other needed equipment to make sure I was prepared for anything that may come with the ride along. I was unable to sleep very well that night being too excited, I stayed up until 03.00 to make …show more content…

The drive over all was pleasant despite the usual San Francisco traffic even on a Saturday morning. Luckily my father was willing to drive me and drop me off so that way I wouldn’t have to deal with finding a parking spot. Which did not surprise me entirely, especially in hindsight, seeing how busy their lives are, and how many people frequent any fire department. My arrival time was 07.39, so I wasn’t expecting the 08.00 crew to be there, but to my surprise they all seemed to be present. I walked into the main living room, where they had probably the largest TV I have seen, with couches, a large dining/work table, and on the far …show more content…
At least so I was told by the operator. We then went on an inspection of all the hydrants in the surrounding area. Where I helped open up and clean out the shut off valves, I also got more information and knowledge on all the different types of construction there is to be found in San Francisco. Mostly commonly false bricks, and the easiest way to tell the difference would be to look at the depth of the windows. We when completed the inspection and went on a drive around the surrounding area to make sure everything was in order it seemed. Along the ride we went out to buy coffee, and we finished up heading back to the station for

Ride Along During and after my experience, I realized how similar and accurate the material learned in class was to what police officer experience in a typical day. I was able to participate in the Fullerton police ride along program, on April 8th from 10am-6pm, under Officer Lopez’s shift. Before arriving for the scheduled ride along, one needs to submit a waiver form. The form was not available online or the community service bureau not opened 24 hours, this created a delay in setting up the ride along.…

When I ride it's like the earth stops at every corner so I can check to make sure a, loud, car isn't roaring towards me. It's like that feeling in your chest that tells you that everything is going to be ok, yet your mind is screaming at you that it won't be. I ride because I was thought that you need to be active in life, but it was never about the one hour of activity time we are supposed to have growing up. it was much more than that. I didn't need help to ride, I needed help to face down my enemies, or conquer my dreams.…

As a member of the Inside Ride Organizing Committee at Mentor College, I assisted to organize, advertise and execute the 2015 Inside Ride cycling event that raised over $50,000 for childhood cancer patients and advancing research. The Inside Ride is an annual fundraising event that my school, Mentor College, has every year in memory of a student who passed away battling cancer in 2010. Having known that student, I felt a deeper connection to the cause and and joined this committee to help raise awareness for childhood cancer and contribute to the success of this event. The event took several months of planning to ensure that everything would run smoothly. I was a part of the fundraising subcommittee, in which my role was to organize the paperwork required for the event and count the money prior to the event.…

To my surprise, I found myself somewhere I never visualized myself being on a Friday night, actually, a place I never expected I would spend any night to be exact, surrounded by fifty or sixty men; of all different races, ages, and religions. I had overwhelming feelings of reconsideration and anxiety flowing through my body. I was wondering if these men would look at me different because of how I dressed or spoke. Nevertheless, I tried to convince myself everybody here was equal, and that I was not superior to the men here were.…
