Seinburg believes to be vital in adolescent teenagers is the social transition. The time spent with their peers will increase throughout this transition. It becomes more important for acceptance from others just as in the puberty and emotional stages discussed previously. This is called the social transition of adolescence. It is recorded that during these transitions, teenagers only spend 15% of their time with their parents and 50% with their peers. Also, during this period it is noticed that this stage shows that that teenagers find peers of the opposite sex.
During this stage teenagers tend to form small groups, crowds, and cliques. Crowds are a larger gathering of social stereotyped individuals such as jocks or nerds. These type of crowds accept their own or others who share some of the same beliefs as themselves. Cliques are similar to crowds but travel in smaller groups. An example of a clique could be a group of teens who like to play cards, or race cars. They have the same enjoyment in activities but it is not apart of the schools
