My concerns are with the confusion in the dialogue. A bulleting would have been a better technique, with also a brief description of where the children were in respect to each other. I think maybe some dialogue was missed. There was also little attention to the whereabouts and continued dialogue of the boy in question, ‘Tony’. The anecdotal notes did highlight an example of the boys sharing and utilizing the timer. This showed great social cooperation with the children and the teacher supported the actions when they were in question. This was a group activity, described with varying notes that didn’t seem to be significant to the observation of the child. Noting the strategy used to dismiss students to the rug and the size of the rug only highlights the degree of tension in the room. In the particular incident with ’Tony’ and the girl, ‘Pat’, although the incident was handled appropriately by the teacher, the observer seemed biased in her evaluation of the girl. During the reading, ‘Tony’ was bumped. Previous history of the little girls prior encounters in hurting other children where addressed immediately in assessing the result of the action as to the severity of the hitting, but that did not need to be mentioned in the accusatory manner as the observer referenced. As to not draw too much attention to the incident or to give each child the satisfaction of causing disruption, the children were checked out, separated, with the lesson resumed. If the true focus was on ‘Tony’, his actions and reactions prior and post incident should have been documented.
Anecdotal documentation can tell a detailed story of a specific moment in a child’s active day. Being as precise as possible in noting who, what, where, why, and how (ECE-240: Week 5 “Anecdotal Records and Time Sampling”: Lecture., 2015, p 2) can easily paint a picture for ourselves and others to visibly see the learning or lack of learning in that moment. These ‘snapshots’ must be clear and concise to be able to be
