Not everybody responds to conflict the same way. Some respond in a positive way or a negative way. They can be very harsh situations, but it depends how people respond to conflict to overcome them. Yet many try to avoid them, it still affects their daily lives. For example “The Diary of Anne Frank: A Play” shows how a young girl named Anne Frank tried to overcome a problem that was affecting her and including her family.…
While reading both books At The Dark End of The Street by Danielle L. McGuire and The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration by Michelle Alexander both have a straight forward approach on the view of stigma and constant racial caste systems placed on African Americans. The books share many comparable factors because the condition based on the fact that African Americans “civil” state never changes. The book At The Dark End of The Street and The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration the emphasis on racial identity comes to play the idea for proper justice of a black man or woman does not exist. McGuire wrote the book in 2007 and Alexander wrote hers in 2012,but regardless of the time gap between the years, the issues of racial injustice seem identical historical and current.…
A moment in the Merlin series that really touched me occurred during season four, episode one, The Darkest Hour, when Percival steps in and saves those three terrified little children from the Dorocha. I found that scene to be a defining moment for Percival, one where his selflessness and gentle heart became apparent. As the show went on, I often wondered, "What happened to those children?" This story features one of the children, Rion (I gave him that name, and have decided to make him a little older for the purpose of this tale).…
Unwind by Neal Shusterman “The process by which a child is both terminated and yet kept alive is called ‘unwinding’” (Shusterman 1). This principle is stated in The Bill of Life, a set of amendments created by a future society to end the Second Civil War between two parties called Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. Part of this proposal includes unwinding, which is the idea where a parent can “abort” their child between the ages of thirteen and eighteen to harvest their organs for others’ benefit.…
The award-winning novel, The Road, written by Cormac McCarthy, portrays the man’s unconditional love for his son in the post-apocalyptic world. At first glance, the novel portrays a hopeless, desolate ambience and elements of despair seem to greatly outweigh elements of hope throughout the novel. Upon further analysis of the text, it is evident that McCarthy uses symbols to portray unconditional love and hope, thus making The Road a novel of hope. Throughout the novel, there is a constant battle between good and bad.…
My book is The Darkest Path by Jeff Hirsch. It is a book with lots of action and adventure. The genre is futuristic fiction and is about two armies fed forces and path forces going to war to control America. The main protagonist is a 13 year old named Cal. He and his brother get captured by path forces when he was eight.…
The Battle Between Man Versus Man Nothing is more thrilling than reading a story packed with conflict. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, conflict is the heart of the story. At the beginning, most readers aren’t sure what to expect, but as the story and conflict develops, readers get a better idea what the story is going to be able and what they can expect. Conflict not only contributes to a better experience for readers, it also contributes to character development, a very vital piece to any story.…
Throughout the short story the brothers relationship with each other evolve and strengthen as their views of their own and each other's suffering…
Conflicts In The Work Of Maxine Hong Kingston And Alice Walker Recently I came across two readings that were strong-minded on conflicts that heavily affected the main characters path. These two readings I came across were " No Name Woman" By Maxine Hong Kingston and " Beauty: When The Other Dancer Is The Self" By Alice Walker.…
Something that comes to mind when we think of a road is choices, the twists and turns that the road has are just like the perils that boy and his father have to face in this novel, the bitter cold, starvation, death and sickness. And of course roads remind us of forks in the road, the decision making turns, when we have to choose between going one way or another, choosing the right path or the wrong path just like the two sets of people in the book, the “good guys” who choose the right path of moral ethics and selflessness and the “bad guys” who choose the wrong path that leads to destruction and chaos. So the theme of good versus evil is very evident in this book. It highlights the worst things that we are capable of doing when we realize…
The Road, a post-apocalyptic novel by Cormac McCarthy, follows the journey of survival of the Man and the Boy in a burnt world covered in ash. To escape the incoming cold weather, they decide to head down south to the coast. With nothing but a pistol, a cart of supplies, and each other, they must cope with hunger, thirst, and the dangers of the land. Along the way, they experience close encounters with bands of cannibals who either will try to enslave or kill them. Throughout the novel, the son, afraid of becoming one of the cannibals or “bad guys,” questions whether they remain the “good guys” whenever the father does something morally questionable to ensure their survival.…
The Importance of Sacrifice in The Road Cormac McCarthy’s The Road portrays a post-apocalyptic world containing nothing but the distinct loss of morality and desperate attempts to survive. In this cruel world, while most become bestial and corrupt, a father and his son struggle to find ways to stay alive while simultaneously keeping hope alive and staying humane in their ways. The sacrifices made by the man strengthen his relationship with his son and help maintain the only thing they have left: their morality.…
What is conflict? In literature, conflict is a struggle between opposing forces. This struggle can be eternal, and it is only something that the main character has to deal with. The main character’s conflict could be external as well, something they have no control over. The stories “The Necklace,” “Rules of the Game,” and “The Most Dangerous Game” all deal with conflict.…
The Downward Spiral, talks about Dylan and Eric’s past. They try to find the motive to the killings they committed at Columbine. Dylan was more of the depressive one out of the two. He even went to say “I have always been hated, by everyone and everything…” Dylan had in his mind that nobody liked him at his school.…
My Response to Save a Life, Kill a Tree Author: Sallie Tisdale Title of Text: Save a Life, Kill a Tree Sallie’s main idea is that everyone should be more caring about the environment. I believe what Sallie says about how people should care more about the environment and I believe this too, because I know that if people do not stop polluting and ruining the environment, then it will make it harder for people to survive because there will be a lot less wildlife and resources for everyone to survive off of. This affects not only affects other people, but me as well because if the environment is destroyed then it will make even harder for my family, friends and even future generations to survive because there will hardly any food or resources…
