My Past Work Experience: A Career As An Effective Leader

Leadership must exude several factors in order to have a stable and effective career within in a management position. A leader or visionary must hold several traits in order to reach the pinnacle of his/her position within the leadership scale. The main focus is continued development of the self-awareness, self-concept, and emotion intelligence. These elements are crucial for sustainability of mutual respect and admiration of their employees and colleagues. Leadership must have the “ability to be logical and rational decision makers and be emotionally charged” (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013, p. 139).

I attend my fair share of seminars and workshops to improve my leadership skill sets. In my opinion, I have knowledge and skills necessary to manage and lead a staff. Although, as I progressed through several of the skills tests it made me realize my actions and attitudes that effected a few past employees and situations. I found areas for improvement from the exams that would help develop my growth moving forward in another leadership role. I took six assessments that tested my ability for emotional intelligence, personality, learning style, values, and diversity. The exams/quizzes help me see the value of understanding the term “self.” In addition, the assessments illustrated some strengths and weaknesses that I could improve in the role as an effective leader in my …show more content…
According to the 16personalities exam, a Defender or ISFJ’s have “the Feeling (F) trait, ISFJs have excellent analytical abilities; though introverted (I), they have well-developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though they are a Judging (J) type, ISFJs are often receptive to change and new ideas.” In addition, my biggest weakness from this test was my ability to judge individuals. As I reflect on a few situations in the past, I have made pre-thoughts or decisions before s hearing the full explanation of a particular situation.
