The nature of Fun Home is written as a literary piece rather than an autobiography in which Bechdel recounts her life though other works of literature. Bechdel is able to compare her life to other works of writing by using allusions and symbolisms. Rather than describing her book as an autobiography, Bechdel considers her book a piece of literature. She is not insinuating the events in her life to be actual fact for those that were involved, but to her understanding of them.…

Relevant Scene I decided to choose a combination of scenes from the movie to show the progression of the character and to fully make my point across. The first scene, was when Alfred started to tell Bruce about his time in Burma. He spoke about a thief who was stealing jewels and how they were looking for him, when one day, he [Alfred] saw a kid playing with a jewel, and learned that the thief was just throwing away the jewels he stole. Bruce asks why would the thief steal them in the first place, and Alfred explains that the thief, like the Joker is a man who he does not understand fully either, and tells him how some men are not looking for anything logical, that they cannot "be bought, bullied, or negotiated with, as they just want…
