An example of Allen Poe’s morbid genius style is a couple of lines from his work “The Raven”: Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token. One of the literary devices Poe uses in his works is symbolism. Poe uses symbolism in the form of any object that might be in one of his works (Zayed 82 – 83). In “The Raven” Poe symbolizes the raven as a messenger of bad news. Another literary device illustrates in his written art is the use of allegories that Poe gracefully maneuvered in his writings (Wilbur 111).
