After seeing the movie Son of Saul, which was written and directed by László Nemes, Clara Royer, I found it to portray very moving themes, concepts, and ideas that were present throughout the movie; the movie itself was very metaphorical in terms of its general theme. Son of Saul takes place primarily in, one could presume, a Nazi concentration camp during World War II in Germany. Being that Son of Saul was set in an Nazi concentration camp, one could believe that the writers felt it was needed to convey the movie through a first person perspective of a non-jewish man’s eyes. The general plotline of this film was that of a man, known as Saul, searching for a Jewish priest to bless his son’s deceased body, an undisturbed place in which he can…

“Music is the mediator between the life of senses and the life of the spirit.” (Beethoven) The story in the book The Soloist by Steve Lopez is a well-presented plot through which we can learn a lot. While the story of the book can be said to be covering a variety of themes; music, homelessness, mental illness, and friendships, I am of the opinion that the themes of mental illness and music are the base of the story. Nathaniel Ayers suffers from schizophrenia, a mental illness that affects his moods and causes him to have bouts of anger, stay in silence and other times speak incoherently.…

Respect as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary is stated as “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something, elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.” Respect is something you cannot teach through words, it is something you earn. After reading Wes Moore’s The Other Wes Moore I believe that success or failure in life is not a result of where you grow up, the education you receive or even the genes you are born with. Success in life comes from instilling virtuous qualities from those you respect and exemplifying them in your own life.…

“We penetrated deeper and deeper into the heart of darkness” (43). This is one of many passages where Marlow uses darkness to tell his personal story about the journey he took through the Congo. This quote has both a literal and figurative meaning, where the reader must go beyond the text to truly comprehend the message of the author, Joseph Conrad. When reading this passage, it may appear that as Marlow and his crew go deeper into the Congo, the men become savage-like due to all the darkness, or evil, they are surrounded by. Joseph Conrad’s novella, Heart of Darkness, is a story about two men’s realization of their own inner evil.…
