Text. Drive. Something Has to be Done! “Texting and driving is one of the leading causes of accidents in the Houston area” (Why). Seeing that Houston has little to no restrictions on texting and drive and the accident rate increasing something has to be done about this texting and driving issue. Some might say a law against texting and driving will put a stop to the problem, but seeing that some cities have implemented law and people are still texting and driving, this suggestion can not be the solution. “In a new survey, 98 percent of motorists who own cellphones and text regularly said they were aware of the dangers, yet three-quarters of them admitted to texting while driving, despite laws against it in some states” (Why). Laws are not enough to stop people from texting and driving, drivers must take a personal stance on this issue and choose to silence their cell phones, put their phones away in out of reach places, and hold one another accountable. Most drivers that text and drive do so because hearing their phone go off tempts them to reach for their phone. Let us commit to silencing our phones while driving and putting them in a place where it can not be reached.
