They are known for a variety of things, some being more beneficial, such as protesting wrongful deaths of African Americans, and others less beneficial, such as antagonizing the general public. Most notably, they are known for asserting that, “All lives don’t matter, Black lives matter!” This opinion exemplifies how people of this label feel as if they are exclusive, and divided from everyone else and this results in a type of jingoistic allegiance to this label rather than to the common good of all people. As stated by David King of the Economist.com, “The goal of this movement seems to be to antagonize anyone who is not a part of the movement.” This antagonism seems to me to be a result of a sense of division and marginalization from the general public. The source of this marginalization is said to have stemmed from public ignorance, but is in no way aided by further labeling and separation. This advice, although beneficial, should be taken with a pinch of salt. In all honesty labels could be completely fine, or possibly beneficial, if not for the plethora of unintended consequences that come along with them. The most significant of these unintended consequences, in my opinion, is political correctness. Political correctness comes hand in hand with labeling because once a group identifies itself it must seek respect. It’s only natural. This is absolutely beneficial when dealing with the basic classifications of human kind, and even when we are dealing with a few more of the specific aspects of human character because it leads to an increase in respect for those who are different; however, problems begin to arise when people insist on dividing themselves over and over again, into subcategory after subcategory until every single person has there own singular label. Now that might sound odd, but let’s think about that for a second. Doesn’t every single person already have his or her own label? Aren’t we all individuals already? So isn’t it obvious just how futile this run away political correctness is? Therefore, encouraging individuals to label themselves in anyway is
