In her 2014 article titled 'How E-Cigarettes Could Save Lives ' posted in the Washington Post, she goes into a lot of detail on the subject. One of the most important lines from the entire article states, “E-cigarettes, however, could be what we need to knock the U.S. smoking rate from a stubborn 18 percent to the government’s goal of 12 percent by 2020. However, there can be more risks because the manufacturer would need to put in a different chemical to keep the person hooked and buying their cigarettes if the nicotine amount is not enough. Unlike the FDA approved cigarette regulations, the American E-Liquid Manufacturing Standards Association (AEMSA) has their own set of standards that are available for public viewing. The FDA approved cigarette regulation documents is basically a legal document. It ensures that if there are any complications that a person has from smoking cigarettes does not come back an negatively impact the FDA. They care about covering themselves. AEMSA on the other hand has written their manufacturing standards as a collaborative effort between all the e-liquid manufacturers so that they are all on the same page on what their responsibilities are to the consumer. The AEMSA standards are all written out clearly so the average person can look up exactly what the regulations are inside the industry and the work environment of those who manufacture the product. They give full detailed information on their nicotine quality and where they get it from, “Section 1.05 (a) The maximum allowable nicotine content in final flavored product will be no

Forcing those who use electronic cigarettes to use the same area as smokers is causing additional harm and putting that person in a situation in which the smoker chose to leave behind for better personal wellbeing. As shown above in various research it is clear to see that placing these “users” with traditional smokers is cruel and unusual punishment. These people chose to leave the world of smoking behind, so why force these people to continue to live that lifestyle? If the research shows that electronic cigarettes have no known negative effects other then a physical addiction to nicotine, than electronic cigarettes should be allowed in public places as it is not causing physical harm to anyone one around the user. Some might go as far as to say that those who switch to electronic cigarettes deserve to be placed with traditional smokers because the smoker have already done irreparable damage, and should be permanently classified as a smoker this is wrong.…

I think that the society has a giant responsibility to teach people about the dangers of smoking. Especially young people who does not recognise how dumb it is to start and whom still relies on other people to pay for their unhealthy habits. This is something that is more societies fault than it is the governments. Even though the government has made laws that should make it illegal for people below 18 years to buy cigarettes, then the harsh truth is that no store will stop a smoker from buying a pack. Because if he does not sell the pack someone else will.…

A 2013 study showed that e-cigarettes can be used as a step towards quitting smoking, and that most e-cigarette users are current or prior smokers (“Tobacco Products : Regulating”). The American Medical Association has explained that e-cigarettes have the potential to be considered a “clean nicotine” product because they deliver nicotine to the user without the health risks of tobacco. Verified “clean nicotine” products include nicotine patches and gum, and are considered a safe way to help people quit smoking (Marlow). A study done in 2010 by researchers at Boston University’s School of Public Health showed that the toxicity level of electronic cigarettes was around the same as the toxicity levels of these existing “clean nicotine” products (Hemphill). Also, a clinical trial performed in New Zealand concluded that electronic cigarettes are at least as effective at helping people quit smoking as the currently used nicotine patches are (Glans).…

We must treat tobacco like we treat any other illegal drug. Make it illegal and ban it in America and around the world. Tobacco is as addictive as any drug and can be a gateway to many other illegal street drugs. Although my idea of banning tobacco and making it illegal may have been previously proposed by others I will never think of it as impossible or extreme. I bet if you had a loved one painfully suffering and slowly dying of cancer or condemned to an oxygen mask like a shackled prisoner, nothing would seem too impossible to save them.…
