One of the greatest dreams for the majority of women is to become, at some point in their life, a mother. Other women become mothers at an early stage in their lives, while others later on in life. Having a child is one of the greatest gifts that any woman can receive. As some people have planned pregnancies, others do not. Which is perhaps the reason in which some of the babies are born with birth defects, as some women do not know they are pregnant and do not take care of themselves. While people may believe that drinking during pregnancy is not bad, it could be. When it comes to drinking an extent amount of alcohol, it is then too much for the fetus to take in, and will cause FASD.( explain FASD) There are many women in this world that underestimate the harm of drinking during their pregnancy, which causes controversy within our society. But how do we know to what extent is drinking during pregnancy bad? Alcohol is one of the greatest abused drugs. Women intaking alcohol during there pregnancy could cause different health problems to themselves and the fetus. Most people in general, both men and women begin drinking before they even turn 21. This has an effect on them, as they truly do not know how to drink properly. Once they begin taking those sips of alcohol they will continue to drink, until they can not handle it anymore. In another survey done, it was shown that binge drinking among pregnant woman was higher than non pregnant women. “Among pregnant women, the prevalence of any alcohol use was 10.2% and the prevalence of binge drinking was 3.1%” (Tan, Denny, Cheal, Sniezek, Kanny 1).
