The Dangers Of Distracted Driving And Accidents

I find it sad the things that can and has happened while driving. On the website”highwaysafety.utah.gov” it states,” 5,013 distracted driver crashes occurred in Utah which resulted in 2,796 injured persons and 17 deaths.” I find this astonishing that there have been so many crashes due to distracted driving. It is both tragic and interesting. It should be everyone’s goal to not drive distracted knowing the dangers and accidents that can come from it. On the website” highwaysafety.utah.gov” it also states,” A 2008 study cited by the University of Utah found that drivers distracted by cell phones are more oblivious to changing traffic conditions because they are the only ones in the converstation who are aware of the road.” I find this easy to believe when you acknowledge the fact that people are more oblivious to almost everything when on their …show more content…
On the website “highwaysafety.utah.gov” shows a graph that tells us younger drivers have the highest rates of accidents that happen due to distractions. Typically you can find a teenager or young adult constantly on their cell phone or doing something that can distract them greatly. These things can and will cause accidents. It is found on the same website a graph showing the years 2006 to 2013 crashes due to cellphone use. On the graph you can see that texting is adding to the accidents that occur while driving. On the website” highwaysafty.utah.gov” it also states,” Statewide, distracted driver crashes represented 9.0% of all crashes and 8.4% of all fatal crashes.” This means that in Utah most fatal accidents occur due to distracted driving. I believe the simple solution to this is to put away all distractions and save them for safer time. Statistics in Utah also show that the leading cause of driving related fatalities in teenagers is running off the road. You can remain safer if you are always alert of what's ahead and keep distractions
