Set in an imaginary city, this story will teach these children to trust in themselves and in others and they follow their hearts in spite of the dangers ahead of them.
The Clockwork Three starts off on the docks of a city, where a ship carrying many riches had recently crashed, and the contents had floated away, close enough for a boy named Giuseppe to pick up one of the ships most valuable possessions, a green violin. His plan works and he successfully escapes, but gets chased and almost killed by his padrone and the the two oldest boys in charge. Uncoincidentally, while Giuseppe is running, he runs into an alley, with only one exit, a door leading into the opera house. In the opera house are Madame Pomeroy, Hannah, and Fredrick waiting in the lobby during intermission, and in runs Giuseppe being chased by the three men. The three wonder if Giuseppe is okay since he is being chased by men twice his size. Giuseppe runs through the building and onto the roof, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, and eventually over the Archer Museum (which will be significant later on) and escaping.
The night of the opera, Fredrick walks Hannah home and learns of her life struggles and of how her father has an infection in his leg and a disease that could kill him if not taken care of properly. She is the only one in her family that works and pays for things, seeing that her mother has to stay at home and take care of her father's every need. She does the best she can, but some days it doesn't seem like it's enough. The treasure that the maid servants have been talking about at the hotel is exactly what she needs to get her family going
