Essay On Child Soldiers

As a child, we think nothing of the dangers ahead of us, but not for child soldiers. In the article “Child soldiers” by Sarah Rose Miller and the article “Abducted Children” by Kelly Jocelyn shows the struggles that child soldiers go through. Child soldiers are kids taken to join in combat. One of many locations that use child soldiers is located in Africa. Child soldiers are illegal in the present, but somehow there are still being used. There is nearly 300,000 kids that were and are still used to military reasons. These 300,000 sometimes innocent kids deserve amnesty, with children being abducted to join the military, or forced to do stuff that they couldn't do physically and mentally, and they were punished/harassed.

It's also showing that they get harrassed which is another way of abuse. These two things can lead to some damage. Especially not having enough food can lead to death. Another part of the article talks about how girl and boy soldiers get sexually harassed. "mainly girls but occasionally boys too--are often sexually exploited"(Miller) As shown in the article the children are not only used for being in combat.

In some people's point of view they believe child soldiers don't deserve amnesty. In the article child soldiers in the future it shows some reason why child soldiers don't deserve amnesty. The article states “many former combatants and child soldiers are still perpetrating their bad habits, including sexual crimes and abuses, once they return to civilian life” (Mukwege para. 5).
