In his article “In Defense of Distraction”, Sam Anderson does not recommend abandoning our culture of distraction. He has a unique way of viewing the battle between concentration and focus: “Focus is a paradox—it has distraction built into it. The two are symbiotic; they’re the systole and diastole of consciousness.” Distraction is not an epidemic or a fatal flaw, nor is it something to immediately accept and embrace. After reading your argument against Pokemon Go, I can say without doubt that I do agree with you. The distractions that this game contributes to society does not equate to the good it does. Distracted walking and driving would not contribute to behavioral activation but rather to accidents that results in hospital visits or deaths. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents, adding one more factor to that equation results in more accidents which outweighs the ability of Pokemon Go to contribute to health. Pokemon Go contributed to people being lured into secluded areas where they are robbed by armed robbers.…

His purpose in writing this article was to persuade professors against having laptops in the classroom because he feels they are a distraction. The arguments Snyder uses against laptops in classrooms are, they distract students’ attention, students miss out of the best part of American life, and he generalizes that this lack of attention will spill over into the workplace. Snyder discusses various online chatting forums such as Skype, Gchat, or iChat that students are engaged in on their laptops during class.…
