The book that I read for this letter essay was James Patterson’s The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. This was the first of the six book Daniel X series that James Patterson wrote. The book talks about Daniel, a young 15 year old alien hunter from the planet Alpar Nok. Daniel travels the world in search of the sixth most dangerous alien outlaw in the galaxy, Ergent Seth. During the chase, Daniel has to overcome being shot, tricked, and escaping capture from the outlaw. But during one encounter with Ergent Seth, Daniel is shot in the stomach and is about to die. It wouldn’t be easy, but Daniel will overcome it. I read Daniel X and I enjoyed the book for it’s action and mystery. There was a lot of plot twists in the book which I liked too.

In other words the conflict is Daniel vs Ergent Seth. The conflict started when Daniel said During the conflict, they go back and forth trading blows that will try and give them the upper hand. One of the blows Ergent Seth made almost cost Daniel his life. “‘What are you going to do? Shoot me?’ I asked with a fake smile. A bloom of fireburst from the gun’s barrel. What felt like dynamite explode inside my stomach” (140). Here, Daniel got shot in the stomach by an Opus 24/24 assault rifle, that almost killed Daniel. However, Daniel was able to get the upper hand and kill Ergent Seth when this happened. “I let out a thunderous trumpeting roar, and I mean that literally. Seth began to call for his Mommy again. Then my head hit the ceiling of something spongy, and I slid through the tissue and membrane with a wet pop” (228). Here, Daniel was finally able to find a way to kill Seth. Before this quote, Daniel transformed into a tick and climbed into Seth’s head. Then, Daniel transformed into an elephant and popped Seth’s head. Daniel w And after trading blows back and forth, Daniel came out on top, and was able to eliminate Ergent Seth.
The book is told from Daniel’s point of view, or first person. During and after many of the quotes, I was able to notice Daniel was saying I, my, and me. For example on page 196 he says “I felt extremely tired. I glanced at the broken pictures that had fallen off the wall. My eyelids

In Luis Alberto Urrea’s novel, “The Devil’s highway,” he uses a passage that describes the migrants’ digression towards death as they travel across the Yuma desert to create an uncomfortable, and sympathetic feeling from the audience. Throughout the book, Urrea uses imagery to describe the harsh conditions of the desert, and the high risk that comes along with attempting to cross it. The passage goes into detail about the unavoidable stages of hyperthermia and how each of these effects the body. Urrea intends to create more emotions within the reader and to help them fully connect with the tone throughout the book. Through imagery he not only describes to the reader what these people may have gone through while making their passage across the…
