The Bixby Outreach Center and The Daily Family YMCA: A Comparison Imagine a person that has just lost their job. They have a family to provide for, children to raise. That person cannot afford to raise their own kids because they have no money for food or clothes. Now, imagine a person that wants to work out, wants an opportunity to make more friends while doing so. This person does not have the money to afford a gym membership. These people both have one thing in common, a lack of money. What do these people do? Fortunately, there are a vast number of non-profit service organizations that can help. Two such organizations are the Bixby Outreach Center and the Daily Family YMCA, or Young Men’s Club of America. While the organizations both help the community, the two organizations differ in the services they provide, the way the organizations are funded, and the services they provide specifically for children. The services the two organizations provide, however, are different. The Bixby Outreach Center has a food pantry, which provides food for families that cannot afford to feed themselves. Another service that the Bixby Outreach Center provides is the clothes closet. This provides clothes to people who cannot afford to buy their own. The Bixby Outreach Center also provides limited financial assistance to Bixby residents. During the holidays, the Bixby Outreach Center also provides food baskets full of holiday food. This lets families who cannot afford a holiday meal enjoy one. The Bixby Outreach Center provides holiday food baskets for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holidays. In contrast, The Daily Family YMCA provides members of the community with an opportunity to better themselves physically and mentally through exercise and socializing.
