Primarily, Esteban avails himself to acts of violence to those more vulnerable and those in his opposition to satisfy his needs; Through these maltreatments, he abuses the authoritative power bestowed upon him. Esteban violates the rights of the peasant women by misusing his jurisdiction. He initially begins his misdemeanors when he attacks Pancha “savagely, thrusting himself into her without preamble, with unnecessary brutality” (Allende 57). Additionally, his abuse of power administers emotional pain upon Esteban Garcia, the Tres Marias’ inhabitants and Ferula. Esteban thoughtlessly imposes his decisions upon everyone in his life and misuses his dominance over them for his selfish motives.
