What makes William Shakespeare and his plays so intriguing? How can someone write so many pieces alone? Very little is known about him as a person, for only a few records have been kept over the centuries. We don't even know if he owned any books! Yet he remains one of the most famous poets to have lived. Perhaps it is because of the many conspiracies and mysteries about Shakespeare and his works of literature. The mysterious curses, superstitions and lost years of his life keep us wondering.
The most common superstition is the Scottish Curse, also known as The Curse of Macbeth. The curse believes that if the word Macbeth is spoken inside of a theater, it will bring bad luck. Macbeth is prone to various tragedies and incidents in the past. This includes someone accidentally getting stabbed with a real dagger, riots, and actors mysteriously dying before shows (Schumm). With strange incidences comes strange reasons as to why. Some believe that Shakespeare is behind this curse. He has written over 37 plays and 154 poems; it seems almost too good to be true. This brings the possibility that there was more than one author. There are also many questions revolving around whether or not he had the knowledge about the things he wrote. Since Shakespeare grew up in a poor family with limited education, how did he know so much about the wealthy lifestyle? People believe that some of his works were really written by some important figure. They believe that they used Shakespeare’s name to prevent any controversy or political tension. These people include 17th Earl of Oxford Edward de Vere, Sir Francis Bacon and Queen Elizabeth I (“Shakespeare”). They were all important figures in that time.
