Economic Inequality And Healthcare In The United States

With the presidential election becoming closer, the possible candidates have various views on the topics in government. Two of the more important topics in my opinion are economic inequality and healthcare. Economic inequality is a growing concern among most of America, as the middle class wages are steadily declining and the upward mobility of children born in poverty is stagnant. As a biology major, the issue of healthcare is extremely important to me as I continue to hear that the current system of healthcare will eventually crash and needs to be reformed quickly. Trump wants a more patient center healthcare system, that empowers families and doctors with healthcare decisions. Unlike Sanders, Trump does not believe Obama care has increase the standing of healthcare in America. On the surface, Trump’s plan is very practical and can work to lower the cost of healthcare. However, the issue with Trump’s free market healthcare is that it will not be equal. Trump’s plan to operate healthcare in a free open business has the benefits of lowering prices because of competition, but the higher prices will have the greater service while lower prices will have lower standard of service. In my opinion, Trump fails to acknowledge that the cost of something is usually highly related to the quality of the service. A hotel that cost $60 a night is not equal in quality of a five star hotel that cost $175 a night. Despite the two politicians having considerable differences, there is similarities in their stances. Both believe that healthcare should be dramatically reformed and should be more patient focus. Both believe that the middle class needs to be stronger for America to thrive. Despite their motivations overlapping, there is an obvious discord on how to get America to a better place than it is today. My views tend to be more along the idea of Sanders. I believe that the top 1% can afford an increase in taxation as the only way for America economy to grow is to pay into economy. Healthcare as a business practice seems impractical to me and will not lead to a system that is better, but a system the leads to more inequality.
