Economic Inequality And Healthcare In The United States

With the presidential election becoming closer, the possible candidates have various views on the topics in government. Two of the more important topics in my opinion are economic inequality and healthcare. Economic inequality is a growing concern among most of America, as the middle class wages are steadily declining and the upward mobility of children born in poverty is stagnant. As a biology major, the issue of healthcare is extremely important to me as I continue to hear that the current system of healthcare will eventually crash and needs to be reformed quickly. I have also seen how the quality of low income Medicaid effected the healthcare my parents and myself receive. Despite the fact that Bernie Sanders has been eliminated from the …show more content…
Trump wants a more patient center healthcare system, that empowers families and doctors with healthcare decisions. Unlike Sanders, Trump does not believe Obama care has increase the standing of healthcare in America. On Trump campaign site https://www.donaldjtrump.com/, Trump list his plan on healthcare is to favor healthcare in a free market sense to lower the restriction of state boundaries on healthcare, price transparency for exams and procedures, lower restrictions on safe and dependable oversea drugs, and allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system. On the surface, Trump’s plan is very practical and can work to lower the cost of healthcare. However, the issue with Trump’s free market healthcare is that it will not be equal. Trump’s plan to operate healthcare in a free open business has the benefits of lowering prices because of competition, but the higher prices will have the greater service while lower prices will have lower standard of service. In my opinion, Trump fails to acknowledge that the cost of something is usually highly related to the quality of the service. A hotel that cost $60 a night is not equal in quality of a five star hotel that cost $175 a night. Trump’s plan favors inequality in healthcare like the price difference of goods in business practice. With …show more content…
Despite the two politicians having considerable differences, there is similarities in their stances. Both believe that healthcare should be dramatically reformed and should be more patient focus. Both believe that the middle class needs to be stronger for America to thrive. Despite their motivations overlapping, there is an obvious discord on how to get America to a better place than it is today. My views tend to be more along the idea of Sanders. I believe that the top 1% can afford an increase in taxation as the only way for America economy to grow is to pay into economy. Healthcare as a business practice seems impractical to me and will not lead to a system that is better, but a system the leads to more inequality. Despite how people feel or fall on agreement with the issues of healthcare and economic equality, there is no denying that these matters are extremely important to American

The bipartisan push for health care in America posits the current Administration to address this matter without a complete dismantlement of the current system. According to, What’s Next for Progressives by Paul Krugman, the Dutch have constructed a universal healthcare system that requires citizens to purchase coverage from regulated insurance providers, yet there are subsidies to assist with purchasing health care; in understanding this, the Affordable Care Act (A.C.A.) if done in a constructive manner has the potential to be of a great benefit to the American people. Thus, incremental change as oppose to a radical shift is a tactic to be considered by the present administration. The conception of affordable health entails positive externalities…

This brings the issue of why is there any differences in the health care delivery system in our nation. The most effective solution to fix the problem of the disparity in the Medicaid system is to reform the Medicaid program. By mandating that all states participate in the Medicaid program, many people who rely on Medicaid will have equal opportunities to receive Medicaid no matter where they live. Equally important, the federal government will be able to manage the funding to ensure that no one is left out due to a state’s lack of funds. In short, this reform can benefit both the state and federal governments. As an incentive for full participation by the state, the funds by the federal government would increase in order to help each state.…
