Internet Travel Tax Fairness Act
In today’s society we face many obstacles and within the hospitality industry it is no different. Currently there are quite a few legislative issues evolving within this industry. In this essay we will discuss one of the current issues impacting the hospitality industry and explore how it came to be important, explain what the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) recommends with the legislature, and how the issue has impacted the industry so far. The legislative issues I have chosen is the Internet Travel Tax Fairness Act.
The American Hotel and Lodging Association is an association setup to help represent all aspects of the hotel industry. This association “provides focused advocacy, communications support, and educational resources for an industry generating $155.5 billion in annual sales from 4.9 million guestrooms” (AH&LA, 2014). As you can see this association is in place to help drive revenue while empowering hotel owners and employees, and this means also helping them fight legislative issues that could potentially due harm. A current issue is the Internet Travel Tax Fairness Act. This fairness act is being recommended by “Third-Party” companies such as Orbitz and Expedia to only have to pay taxes on the “wholesale” price of the hotel room, rather
