Social Media Problem

Statistically, everyone in this room has at least one social media account. They have become a part of most of our every day lives, at this point. If we all have them, could they really be that bad? The answer is yes… and no. When it comes to social media, it is all about the way we use it. When used as a device for connection with old friends or family members across the world, an opportunity for networking with the next potential employer, or a source of light-hearted entertainment, it is amazing. Conversely, when it is used as a distraction from life and as a means of avoidance, our love of social media can quickly spiral into an obsession. When pleasure no longer drives our usage and anxiety does, it becomes a problem (Rosen, 2014). It …show more content…
It has its own unique set of parameters, as social media has a large, and potentially valuable, place in our world. In order for a solution to be successful, it must be: accessible, realistic, and beneficial. Fist of all, it must be accessible. If the solution is not accessible, no one will use it. This means that the solution to our current social media crisis must be available to everyone who needs it. It must be fairly priced, or even better: free of charge. It must also be easy to use. One of the best things about social media is that it is so easy to use, easy to find out what everyone is doing at any moment. The solution needs to share this characteristic. Secondly, our solution must be realistic. It is entirely unrealistic that everyone is going to delete every Internet account they have. So our solution has to reflect this truth. We also have to keep in mind that not all social media is bad. We use it for a reason – for all of the good that comes from our accounts. We cannot demonize one of the things our current generation is known for creating and enjoying so much. And last – but not least – our solution has to be beneficial. We have to see results and perks. So let us keep exploring these avenues and find a solution that meets these
