The current life expectancy and the quality of life in the United States is below average among first world nations. The quality of life is very disputable on why statistics such as these exist. However, the below average life expectancy is proven to be directly related to the high obesity rate in the United States. Obesity can be directly attributed to the convenience of fast food restaurants. The easy availability of more calorie heavy fattening fast food restaurant is arguably the sole blame of the obesity crisis especially in American children. Childhood obesity in the United States has reached epidemic proportions in the last couple years creating a high mortality rate and directly related health issues.

Obesity is a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in a body. An individual is considered obese when they have a BMI score exceeding 30. According to CDC.gov, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years.” Fast food is not the only issue because when it is paired with the decreased rate of child exercise the childhood obesity epidemic was born. Technology is not innocent either in any of this either, the children of 2015 would rather play on their iPhone than play classic adolescent games like hide and seek, or tag.
