This production is based off the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time by Mark Haddon and was adapted into a play by Simon Stephens. The play is about the coming-of-age of an autistic teenager by the name of Christopher John Francis Boone who tries to solve the mystery of who killed his neighbor’s dog. However, during his investigation Christopher soon discovers that not only did his father kill the dog but he also lied to him about the death of his mother. The play concludes with Christopher finding his mother (who had cheated on his father), reconciling with his dad, and passing an important math test. For example, Benjamin’s performance was astounding because of the gestures and the British accent he used sold to the audience that he was in fact an autistic British teen. Also, Elena who played Siobhan who was Christopher’s teacher and the narrator of the story was effective in displaying her sympathy for Christopher. However, Gene Gillette which was good didn’t meet up to the standards of the rest of the main characters because his accent just wasn’t believable mainly because he spoke in a monotone throughout the play. Lastly, Felicity’s performance was also quite good in the way she could sound and look like a worried mother in the way she consoled as well as spoke to

One of the first things discussed in Eleanor Traylor's essay about Black theatre are the two main forms of contributions made which are minstrel show and slave narrative which is what she focuses on the most. Minstrel show is the first American dramatic form which came from the "tradition of confrontation and improvisation of grace under pressure" (48) which did not have the same roots as European contexts. The process of the creation of minstrel shows was created in America by African people. The contrast between the mask of the blues hero and the tragic protagonist also come into play when looking at the influence of African Americans. It goes beyond the journey, but into the rhythms and vision as well as the angle in which they see life…

The Cadillac Palace Theatre, in Chicago, is a proscenium theatre due to it utilizing a frame-like structure. The theatre itself is elaborate due to its unique design and performance tactics used on stage. It may also be considered modern, lighting up the entire street at night with its illuminating yellow lights. But, as for the stage in the theatre, I feel as if it is not large enough in consideration of the sheer size of the theatre. It may be hard for some individuals to observe what is being performed during certain scenes.…

Logic is the reasoning assessed on the principles of validity. Emotion is the intuitive feeling as distinguished from reasoning. The rule of balance defines the way an individual’s morals bristle with prejudice, evaluating their motivation by pride and vanity in the discovery to reach new insights involving logic and one’s plight of present perception. These concepts can be evident with reference to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, a novel-to-play adaption by Simon Stephens, through questioning the thought of subjecting logic with emotion and observing themes that alert the stability in the conflict of forming individual identity. Its main character, and narrator of the book, fifteen-year-old Christopher is mathematically…

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a very unconventional and riveting novel. A young boy named Christopher narrates the entire story through his eyes. This gives the reader a sense of how a person with Autism views the world. Before each of the beginning chapters, the author has illustrated faces with divergent expressions. These faces portray how one of Christopher's teachers, Siobhan shows Christopher how to reveal people's feelings as they speak to him.…

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night, the third novel of Mark Haddon, tells the story of Christopher, an autistic teenager who decides to find out who killed his neighbor’s dog with a pitchfork. The investigation of Christopher soon turns into a journey into the recent history of his family and a difficult initiation into the world of so-called "normal", with lots of up and downs while wandering through London. The outline of the story is simple, traditional at best, but solved in a clever game of variations. The author is good to describe this special little boy’s mind- his idiosyncrasies, his love for mathematics, his expression and communication difficulties, his language.…
