As mentioned, Christopher looks at the world very logically. He is completely obsessed with lists and routines. He even describes having a lot of difficulty being on vacation with his parents because they did not have a routine. Also, because of his inability to understand human emotion, he relies on order and logic to understand the world. Since Christopher is also the narrator, we have insight and can take part in his thoughts. Throughout the story he discuss physics and math, that have clear and logical rules; unlike real life. That somebody murders a dog because his wife left him, and then tells his son that his mother died, instead of telling him that his mother moved with another man. I do not see this as a common thing. However, if we look at the story as a whole; a 15 year old with autism that struggles to understand other people. That is something we can relate to current situations. There are probably other people with a similar disorder as Christopher. That struggles understanding human emotions.
