The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” the character Mother is the most influential character to Christopher because she is the most confusing yet has so much meaning behind everything she does, which leads to so many unexpected twist and turns. Throughout the book Mother has many different sides to her as you read you find out many more motives and qualities you may have not been able to see before, a couple that I found very important was the fact that everything she did had very strong meaning behind it. Therefore he continues to read and finds out why Mother left, where she is, who she's with, and that she still loves him. “ l “ ‘And that was when I was going to explain what I was doing and say that come back to see you as often as I could and you could come down to London sometimes to stay with us. But when I rang your father he said I couldn’t come back. He was really angry. He said I couldn’t talk to you. I didn’t know what to do. He said I was being selfish and was never to set foot back inside the house again. So I haven’t . But I’ve been writing you letters ever since” ( Haddon. 106). This whole section in the book lets the reader know that Father had been hiding Mother from Christopher and furthermore that Mother wasn’t able to come back to see Christopher. She only was writing the letters because Father wouldn’t let her come around. This kind of tell us that Mother in a sense likes to run from her problems because she die set really know how to deal with them. “I’m not like your father. Your father is a much more patient person. He just gets on with things and if things upset him he doesn’t let it show. But that’s not eh way I am and there’s nothing I can do to change it” (Haddon. 106). This may have been another reason what Mother just decided to up and leave and try to carry on later again with Christopher. Mother couldn’t handle the strain between her and Father so she ran away with Rodger and thought she could come back when she pleased, but it doesn’t always work like that as we saw in the book. Without Mother being unstable the story could’ve been so much different. Who knows Mother and Father could still be together. Christopher has expressed before how its hard to imagine something that has never happened before. Christopher can’t even dream of things that has never happened before. “I felt giddy.
