“Parenting isn’t a practice. It’s a daily learning experience” -Unknown. What makes a good parent? The qualities of fine parenting involve attributes like love and compassion, understanding and honesty, and at some point in the novel “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” both Judy and Ed do a good job, while they both have flaws, but then again we all do, in the end show that they are determined to be good parents. There are a lot of lessons learnt, a lot of mistakes made and a lot of forgiving and understanding and everything in this book is seen through the eyes of Christopher.

She started spending lots of time with Mr Shears as he was the only one that understood her and she didn 't feel as lonely as she did when she was with Ed. Both Mr Shears and Judy fell in love with each other and he suggested that she should leave Ed, but not only was she leaving Ed, she was leaving Christopher too. “I meant to say goodbye, But when i rang your father he said i couldn 't come back” - Judy. She lives in London with Mr Shears. We first hear about her at the start of the book when Christopher explains the memories he has of her before her death, he remembers, she was a small person, who smelt nice, he remembers how she used to tell him that he was a nice, good person.. Later on in the book he then finds out that his Mother isn’t really died. He discovers this secret by finding letters from his Father’s room that were addressed to him years ago. “I was not a very good mother, Maybe if things had been different, maybe if you’d been different, i might have been better at it.” -Judy. Not only does Christopher find out that his mother isn 't dead, but also that his father lied to him about what happen to her and why she wasn 't with them …show more content…
Judy is so excited to see Christopher, gives Chris a big hug and forgets all about Chris hating hugs until Christopher says something. Mother takes Chris in, feeds him, baths him and takes care of him.. While Chris lives them it creates a lot conflict between Mr Shears, Judy, and also Ed when he turns up to get his son back “I cooked his meals, I cleaned his clothes, I looked after him when he was ill. I worried myself sick every time he wandered off somewhere at night. And you? What? You wrote him some letters” - Ed. Once Ed leaves after not succeeding in getting Chris back, Mr Shears starts to complain and wonder what there going to do with Chris.. “This flat is hardly big enough for two people, let alone three”. - Mr Shears. After a lot of persuading from Chris, and arguments with Mr Shears, Judy decides to make a wise decision, to go back to Swindon. “We are going back to Swindon because if we say in London any longer… someone is going to get hurt, and i don 't necessarily mean you” - Judy. In the end Judy creates a new, healthy life for both herself and Chris.. She moves to Swindon, gets flat, finds a job and gets help to gain and build up a good way of controlling and expressing her
