People can go to extremes to do what they believe is right.This is the same as love: when someone loves someone else they will do most anything for them.These actions display the truest of love, between friends, lovers, and family. In Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Christopher lives with his dad after his mother's apparent death, which turns out to be false. Both of his parents have taken care of him for an amount of time and have both had successes and failures. They both try to be the appropriate parents for him. While this is true, the right parent needs to be best for him and he needs to be prepared to make sacrifices for him. Someone will take care of him, stick with him when life gets tough, his father does these things. Since the beginning of the novel, Mr. Boone has looks out for Christopher, when he gets arrested for hitting the policeman his dad fights for Christopher, instead of getting mad at him. When he first arrives he shouts “‘ I want to see my son’” and “‘Why the hell is he being locked up?’” and he doesn’t stop looking out or his son(16). He treats his son with full innocence and he wants to be with him while he is in custody. Along with this, during the interrogation between the cops and Christopher, his dad still sticks up for Christopher and advocates for him to get him out of trouble from the crime he commits by hitting the cop. He tells the police that “[Christopher] didn’t mean to hit the policemen” because Christopher wouldn’t understand the question and he would say that he did mean to hit him(17). He knows the way Christopher is, and he is looking out for him when he cannot. He knows and loves Christopher and he wants to help him live a good life. His dad is always with him, helping him while his mother isn't. She left with Mr. Shears, their neighbor, and as Mr. Boone put it “[He] cooked his meals… [He] looked after him every weekend… [He] went to school every time he got into a fight. And you? What? Boone is the best choice for Christopher, for his endeavor to accommodate him, supporting him and his willingness to protect his son at all times. Mr. Boone does everything an appropriate parent should do and more, while his mother is less than exceeding expectations. Throughout the novel, Christopher has been somewhat hard to deal with, but each of those times, his dad has been there to try and care for him. Along with him trying to do the right thing, he puts all of it at risk to do what he believes will help his son. When someone loves someone else, they will go above and beyond to do what’s best for them, and if they love them enough, they will do it even though the other may not approve.
